Trinity's beginnings as a Community Centre

Organ Before the FloorThe St Paul's 'uprisings' of 1980 awakened the desire of Afro-Caribbean community activists to provide ownership for young people of a centre that offered entertainment and personal development relevant to their own perceived needs. Without the hard work and dedication of this organisation, who undertook all of the early restoration and conversion work, the Centre would not be the amazing functioning community space it is today.

Almost a decade later the group ceased to exist. The building was given to Bristol City Council who leased it to the New Trinity Community Association until 2001 when the organisation was liquidated, forfeiting their 50 year lease. The building became the responsibility of the City Council once again, who subsequently held a tendering process opening applications to a variety of community and commercial developers. A group of budding social-enterprisers launched the "Save Trinity" campaign to get the Centre back into the hands of the local community.
