Statement from Chair
I would like to introduce myself as the new Chair of the Board at Trinity Community Arts, recently appointed to take over from Geoff Day. I look forward to meeting you all in the coming months and to working with you to continue and to develop Trinity as a successful organisation and venue.
My first job as Chair is to invite you to attend a general meeting to pass a special resolution to adopt updated Articles of Association, which incorporate at paragraph 4.1 the objects of Trinity Community Arts Limited. A summary of the proposed amendments can be viewed by clicking here.
There are good reasons for doing this. We have been advised by the Charity Commission to make the proposed amendments to bring our charitable objects in line with their guidelines and to achieve charitable status. This will be of huge benefit to the organisation as it will allow us to have access to alternative streams of funding for projects and activities, and will also enable us to build our reserves to ensure the long-term sustainability of the Trinity Centre.
The board and team at Trinity Community Arts Limited consider that it is a very high priority for it to gain charitable status and therefore recommend that you vote in favour of this resolution.
The articles are otherwise consistent with articles previously adopted by the members and also take into account comments made by the members in relation to the constitution of Trinity Community Arts Limited.
If existing members have any questions or specific concerns do please get in touch before the meeting. We're very happy to arrange individual meetings in order to make sure you have all the answers you need. If you are not currently a member or your membership has expired, please consider joining as a member so that you can get involved and vote on important issues at future meetings. If you are a member and are unable to attend, please download a proxy form to indicate how you wish to vote.
The coming year is going to be an exciting one for Trinity - we have the new building on West Street together with a whole range of projects, both new and ongoing. Gaining charitable status will significantly strengthen our ability to deliver all these.
Yours faithfully
Simon Birch, Chair - Trinity Community Arts
