17 year old David Reece sits in a small cell in northern France and waits for the dawn. David says he was running to get help for his dying friend; the Army says he is guilty of cowardice and desertion. Is he guilty? Of what? And how is he going to tell his mum?

Based on a true story, Leaving Tommy traces this young boy’s compelling and moving journey from his happy South London childhood, through his fateful decision to volunteer for Kitcheners Army, to the front line of one of the most horrific battles in the history of warfare – the first day of the Somme Offensive.

A powerful and inventive production that reveals the depths and complexities of this very human tragedy.
