Andrew Bird

+ Woodpigeon

Chicago-based multi-instrumentalist and lyricist Andrew Bird picked up his first violin at the age of 4 and spent his formative years soaking up classical repertoire completely by ear.  When it came time for a restless teen-ager to make his own way, it wasn’t such a giant leap to Hungarian Gypsy music, early jazz, country blues, south Indian etc. It's fitting that now, though classically trained, he has opted to play his violin in a most unconventional manner, accompanying himself on glockenspiel and guitar, adding singing and whistling to the equation, and becoming a pop songwriter in the process.

His work was first acclaimed in the concert setting by the curious attraction of one man generating the wealth of sound normally produced by an orchestra, seemingly composing, or at least structuring the songs.  Passages of violin, guitar, voice and glockenspiel are looped and layered forging a texture of definitive hooks and rhythms out of spontaneous stabs and strums. Each night is unique; Andrew rarely replicates the album version, as beloved as they may be.

Since beginning his recording career in 1997, he has released eleven albums.  His 2009 album Noble Beast won praise from Esquire, the New York Times Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, NPR, Rolling Stone, Spin, and many others.  He followed the release with a worldwide tour that kicked off at Carnegie Hall and included appearances at Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Radio City Music Hall, The Hollywood Bowl, the Sydney Opera House and the TED conference, along with a few hundred more destinations.

Amazon.com recently named Bird’s Mysterious Production of Eggs one of the "100 Greatest Indie Rock Albums of All Time," and more recently his prior effort, The Swimming Hour, enjoyed a vinyl reissue —about which the typically sedate Pitchfork enthused:  “a stroke of genius…a killer batch of songs that add up to a sublimely enjoyable whole.”  More recently, contributed his rendition of Kermit classic 'Bein Green' to the new Muppets movie record The Green Album, as well as scored the original soundtrack for independent film Norman.

The Carpet Crawlers

Fresh off the back of a successful European tour The Carpet Crawlers bring their stunning show back to the UK with a true 'celebration' of the glorious music of Genesis.

Performing a three hour show the band faithfully covers both eras of the band's history where they treat you to the majestic, theatrical classic Gabriel period with full costumes, then assault the senses with TWO drumkits and a stunning lightshow taking us to the 'stadium' era of the Collins period.

All this with plenty of entertainment and the infectious passion of the Crawlers has proved to be a night simply not to be missed.

The Beat hailed from working class, industrial Birmingham, England. When The Beat rushed on to the music scene in 1979, it was a time of social, political and musical upheaval. Into this storm came The Beat, trying to calm the waters with their simple message of love and unity set to a great dance beat.

Over the course of the next five years The Beat toured relentlessly and released three studio albums: "I Just Can't Stop It", "Wh'appen", and "Special Beat Service". The band toured the world, touring with such artists as David Bowie, The Police, REM, The Clash, The Talking Heads, The Pretenders, and The Specials, to name but a few.

The Beat kept scoring hits with tunes that have now become so popular that it's hard to remember a time when they didn't exist, such as "Mirror in the Bathroom", "Save it for Later", "I Confess", "Stand Down Margaret", and their serene cover of Andy William's "Can't Get Used To Losing You".

On February 10th 2003 The Beat’s reunion gig took place at London's Royal Festival Hall. Ranking Roger along with Everett, Saxa, Neil and Andy were reunited with Dave Wakeling and Blockhead. The overwhelming success of the gig, encouraged Ranking Roger to resurrect The Beat, with his son Murphy accompanying Roger on vocals in place of Dave Wakeling. Saxa was eventually obliged to give up life on the road. However, the spirit of Saxa is still on the road and has left an indelible mark on this band.

Having re-established The Beat in the UK, the band has had continued success with their tours of the UK, Ireland, Europe and Australia. Additionally Murphy aka Ranking Junior, has had combined success with The Ordinary Boys with their top 3 single ‘Boys will be boys’. At long last Roger and the boys have recorded the first album for The Beat since the early 1980’s. Currently being mixed by Adrian Sherwood the album is once again a work of pure brilliance by a band whose musical prowess has lasted 3 decades.
