More information and house-rules about the gardening project

Gardening

  • If you are interested in taking part in the organic gardening/permaculture project, we encourage you to attend the regular volunteer day, every Thursday 12pm-5pm                     This creates a common day when everyone taking part in the project can meet and learn from each other.

Communicating

  • Remember, this garden is a shared space, so please take time to come and meet the regular Thursday volunteers before you start to garden

  • Check the bulletin board and talk to the Garden Coordinator for chores that need to be done on the day/week

  • The bulletin board is a useful ways for all volunteers to stay in touch. Please use it for any garden-related purposes

Tidying

  • Please leave the site free from debris

  • Dispose of weeds and plant materials in designated compost areas

  • We are grateful if gardeners, where possible, can volunteer their time doing tasks that are required in the garden at the time, or litter picking around the grounds

Organic

  • Keep it organic - do not use herbicides or black plastic mulches

Tools

  • Tools are locked in the shed – Garden Coordinators can sign the shed key out - but make sure all tools are put back and the key signed back in at the end of the day

  • Before using sharp tools such as secateurs, hand fork and hand spades ask the Garden Coordinator and use with caution

  • Try to avoid leaving multiple tools around as they can be unsafe to others who are unaware of their location

  • Ensure when using or storing the water hose that it does not create a trip hazard

You

  • Avoid gardening in greenhouses and in polytunnels in the full sun to reduce risk of sunburn or heat exhaustion

  • We recommend you wear a hat, long sleeves, sunglasses, a high factor sunscreen and gardening gloves, when necessary - an essential kit for all gardeners!

and don't forget to drink lots of water!

  • Gardening can result in bruising, blisters and sores that require skincare – garden at your own peril!

  • If you are unsure or feel you require advice or training, please talk to the Garden Coordinator or contact a member of the Trinity team.
